Oceanside Unified School District serves 22,000 students in 17 elementary schools, three middle schools, two comprehensive high schools, three charter schools and two alternative schools. One of the most diverse school districts in San Diego County, we embrace our student population of primarily Hispanic, Caucasian and African-American students, as well as smaller populations of Asian, Pacific Islander and Native American students. Our students’ families span the socio-economic spectrum, with about half of our students qualifying for the free and reduced meal program. Camp Pendleton, our Marine Corps neighbor to the north, is home to about 5,000 students who bring experience and culture from all over the country and world.
Oceanside Unified School District is one of the largest employers in Oceanside, with about 2,300 full-time and part-time employees — about half teachers and the other half supporting teachers and students in a multitude of roles. We are able to attract and keep high quality employees with one of the best salary and compensation packages in San Diego County. Working hard to build a reputation as a high performing district in California, Oceanside Unified School District has become recognized for bold steps toward raising expectations for all students and staff and for remarkable improvements in student achievement in a short period of time.
